Here at textile.training we’ve been thinking about what the election results mean for local industry and the importance of training in growing our manufacturing sector.

With the Federal Election count now finalised could Australian manufacturing be a big winner?

Cross benchers are set to hold significant power over the coming term and the likes of the Xenophon Team, with strong local manufacturing and jobs platforms, could be key to pushing for stronger support of the sector.

The Guardian’s recent interview with Nick Xenophon provides insight into the politician’s strategy for the coming parliamentary term, including his focus on Aussie manufacturing and a blunt analysis of what’s gone wrong in the past;

“We have not looked after the national interest, we have sacrificed good manufacturing jobs, many tens of thousands of jobs, on the altar of free trade fundamentalism.”

We’re sure hoping this signals renewed political focus on Aussie manufacturing and local jobs!
